Right now, we need to curb the wanderlust and keep our awara ass there on the couch. However, amidst binge-watching and chilling, we might forget to take care of what actually drives us around, our vehicles.
No, you don’t need to be a mechanic to take care of your car while you take that chill pill, just follow these basic precautionary steps and save yourself some unnecessary trouble.
Switch on the ignition regularly
It is advised to start your vehicle once every three days. This is done in order to save the vehicle’s battery from dying or in simple words, running out of charge. However, you can also unplug the battery if the vehicle is going to be parked for long.
Say no to hand brake
If your vehicle is parked for a long time, then engaging the hand brake is not the right practice. This might lead to a jammed handbrake when you release it afterward. Rather leave the vehicle in gear when you park. Moreover, you can also use external supports like bricks, or a wooden block to stop the vehicle from rolling. This would keep your vehicle in place unless it’s Taarzan: The Wonder Car! LOL!
Don’t just park anywhere
An indoor location is the ideal parking space for your vehicle when you decide it to leave it idle for a while. Well, it will not only save your precious possession from those nasty pigeons’ droppings but would also protect the paint job from being exposed to excessive sunlight. If you haven’t changed the position of the vehicle in a week or to avoid any patches on a specific body panel because of the sunlight.
Clean the interiors
Well, as much as it is essential to keep ourselves sanitized nowadays, it’s equally important that we keep the interiors clean before parking the vehicle during the lockdown. If you leave food items inside the cabin, it might attract rodents and insects for a feast and that is obviously not a very pleasant sight. Moreover, it can damage the electrical connections and other critical components. To circulate fresh air in the cabin, you can roll down the windows and switch on the AC blower at maximum speed for a while.
Monitor tyre pressure
In the case of a vehicle being parked in the same position for a long duration, it is highly recommended to move it forward or backward. Well, it is essential to avoid tyres from developing flat spots. Since the weight of the vehicle would be at a single contact patch for a long time the tyre tread may compress and becomes a flat spot. Hence, it is necessary to move it a bit so the vehicle weight is distributed all over the tyre evenly and stop the sidewalls from cracking.
