After formally announcing earlier this month that the 21st edition of International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards will be held in Madhya Pradesh, the state government had yet another good news for Bollywood buffs.
State Public Relations Minister PC Sharma had announced that the government will host the grand finale of Indian Idol Season 11 in the state capital on February 20. Fans from across the state were waiting with sheer excitement to witness Himesh Reshammiya, Neha Kakkar and Vishal Dadlani, along with the 15 finalists, perform live.
However, due to lack of time for technical arrangements, the channel’s management decided to organize the grand finale in a studio located in Mumbai. Though the decision was sort of a dampener, there’s no need to get disappointed as Sony TV has assured Faiz Ahmed Qidwai, Principal Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Tourism, that the channel will organize several other entertainment events across the state in the days to come.
Speaking to media, Qidwai informed that regretting about the grand finale of Indian Idol season 11 the channel’s management has assured that it will organize other entertainment events in collaboration with Madhya Pradesh Tourism in the near future.
Big Bollywood Boost
Recently, State Public Relations Minister PC Sharma had said that the mere announcement of the International IIFA Awards has given a boost to the state’s tourism industry.
While the erstwhile ruling party, the BJP, has dubbed the move as misuse of government funds, speaking during the official announcement of the IIFA Awards in Bhopal on February 3, Chief Minister Kamal Nath had said, “Hosting IIFA here will give a global status to the culturally rich state and the heart of ‘Incredible India’. This function is going to provide a new identity to Madhya Pradesh.”
The state that had been known for Bhopal gas tragedy till now has suddenly become the hottest and most preferred destination for the entertainment industry. IIFA Awards will be held in Indore from March 27 to 29. After an event to be held on March 21 in Bhopal, the remaining event will be held in mini-Mumbai.
For the first time, Salman Khan will host the ceremony. Riteish Deshmukh will co-host the show with Salman. Katrina Kaif and Jacqueline Fernandez will perform on the award night. The Awards events will be attended by more than five thousand people from the film industry, including over 400 film artists.
