Despite the rising number of Coronavirus positive cases in the state, the government has started the sale of alcohol in the state from May 20. The state was divided into two zones – red and green, and the sale of alcohol is prohibited in all areas that come under the red zone.
Areas that came under the red zone include Indore and Ujjain districts, the municipal areas of Bhopal, Burhanpur, Jabalpur, Khandwa, and Dewas as well as municipality areas of Mandsuar, Neemuch, Dhar, and Kukshi. All the remaining districts in the state were placed under the green zone.
The time to open thekas was from 7 am to 7 pm. However, under the Unlock 1.0 initiative, the time has now been increased by two hours. Thus, thekas in green zones will be allowed to operate from 7 am to 9 pm. Owners of alcohol shops will be have to follow the rules set by the government and ensure social distancing is followed.
On June 2, 137 positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Indore. With this, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in the district has increased to 8420.
