How much time does an average college student spend on Facebook? And how many posts are uploaded daily by a school student? These are some of the topics covered in a research paper presented by former city’s Additional Director General (ADG) police Varun Kapoor.
The study, which collated and analyzed data of 250 students, shows that most students are addicted to social media in general and Facebook in particular. About 44% of school students and 58% of college students have 50-500 Facebook friends. The study also reveals that 43% of school and 32% of college students never upload or share a post on Facebook.
About 31% of college students as against 22% of school students admit having posted or shared obscene content on Facebook.study reveals
The craze for uploading their own profile picture is high in both the groups. About 57% of school students and 52% of college students have uploaded their photos as the profile picture. About 28% of school and 27% of college students send friend requests to unknown people at times.
The numbers of college students who post, share or like the content on eminent people of the city are double that of school students (22% vs. 11%). This is an indication of the ‘defiant’ nature of the youth of the society in the present times, states the study.
The percentage of students who uploads two posts in a day was about 85% for both groups. Also, 61% of school and 57% of college students are not bothered too much with privacy and have chosen ‘public’ in the security settings.
Interestingly, 58% of school students and 57% of college students do not add their parents in their friend list
